Title: Games Technology and Games Programming Courses in Bournemouth University and UK
Speaker: Dr. Feng TIAN
Associate Professor in the School of Design, Engineering & Computing (DEC), Bournemouth University
Abstract:
Many universities in UK are now offering game related courses. In my presentation I will first give an outline about the overall game education in UK. Then, going a bit deeper, I will introduce the two game-related courses: games technology (GT) and games programming (GP), offered by my department which is what we call Creative Technology Framework, in the School of Design, Engineering & Computing (DEC), Bournemouth University (BU), UK. The differences between two courses, including their rationale, design and structure will be outlined. I may also give a brief introduction to my school DEC and BU if time allows.
In the second part I will share a novel approach to address the feature-agnosticism of linear blending for terrain texturing by making the distinction between features (bricks, cobble stone, etc.) and non-features (cement, mortar, etc.). The intermittent texture transitions are generated on the fly without the need for artistic intervention. The scalability and diversity of the approach can be tailored to a wide range of hardware and can utilize textures of any size and shape. Results and performance analysis will be given during the presentation.
